CONCORDIA ERPELDANGE
Société de Chant et de Musique Concordia Erpeldange a.s.b.l.

History of the Choir (4)

1961 - 2002:

1961
The youth section initiated a carnival parade where also some music instruments were played. This brought up the idea to transform the youth section of the choir into a music section.
On June 7 the first instruments were bought and handed out on the next day.
1964
The Concordia statutes were modified in order to increase the size of the committee. Four representatives of the music section were added to the seven members who formed the committee up to then.
1965
The UGDA (Union Grand-Duc Adolphe) federation decided to list our society under the name "Société de Chant et de Musique Concordia" (Choir and Band Concordia).
1970
Louis Leider, president for 28 years, retired from his post. His son Joseph Leider was elected as his successor and thus became the third president of Concordia.
1971
Pierre Reeff, member for 35 years and director of the choir for 23 years, resigned.
His post as director was taken over by Joseph Wilmes.
1976
Concordia obtained a new flag, designed by Professor Edmond Lux and sponsored by 22 inhabitants of Erpeldange. The celebrations took place on November 21.
1981
The extraordinary general assembly of December 8 decided to transform the society in a not-for-profit organisation (a.s.b.l. = "Association sans but lucratif"). This allowed Concordia to acquire an old house dating from the 17th century. The renovation was supported by the national "Sites et Monuments" office. The renovated house was given the name "Kluck" and is used since for different events.
1984
Concordia celebrated the 100th anniversary of its choir and, at the same time, two years in advance, the 25th birthday of its band. The celebrations went from June 30 to July 15 with many concerts, and an interesting book was edited to commemorate the event.
1993
The number of male members of the choir decreased constantly. therefore, the committee took the decision to open the choir also for female members. This laid the foundation for a new uptake as a mixed choir.
1994
Joseph Wilmes retired as the director of the choir; he was replaced by Paul Wagener from Hosingen.
2000
After six years as the director of the choir, Paul Wagener was replaced by Christian Gérard who left, due to professional requirements, after six months only. At the end of 2000, Henri Bissen, originating from Vichten, was nominated director of the Concordia choir.
2001
Since Henri Bissen was also director of the choir "Ste Cécile Schieren" it was decided to organise a common concert which was given with great success both in Erpeldange and in Schieren.
