CONCORDIA ERPELDANGE
Société de Chant et de Musique Concordia Erpeldange a.s.b.l.

History of the Band (1)

1961 - 1980:

1961
On Carnival 1961 a few young members of the Concordia choir, playing a trumpet, a trombone, a clarinet and a drum, participate in a parade through Erpeldange.
This can be seen as the birth of the "Jeunesse Musicale", a music section within the Concordia society. Alphonse Ramponi volunteered to become the first director of the young group.
On June 7, the first instruments were bought. The Concordia Committee approved this acquisition, mentioning however that this should not give birth to an independant band.
On the occasion of the village fair in September, the "Hämmelsmarsch" was played in the village streets and the first public concert was given.
1964
A band needs a consistant budget to exist and to grow.
In order to raise money, a first ball was organised with success. The Concordia Committee was extended by four representatives of the music section.
1965
The music federation "Union Grand-Duc Adolphe" analyses the strange situation of a choir founding a band, thus resulting in a "double" society.
It is decided to recognise a single society with a choir section and a band section under the name "Société de Chant et de Musique Concordia Erpeldange".
1970
The director of the band, Alphonse Ramponi, retires and is replaced by Jos Turmes of Ettelbruck.
1971
In order to grow the number of members of the band, it is decided to organise regular music theory courses for children and young people. The courses were given by the director Jos Turmes. The Erpeldange Administration supported these courses financially.
1973
The newly founded football club FC72 attracted many young people, also from the band. To compensate for this, it was decided to accept also female band members.
1977
The Committee decides to continue the music theory courses, despite the fact that the music schools of Ettelbruck and Diekirch offered a more complete curriculum.
1978
The band gets new uniforms.
1979
In July, the director Jos Turmes retires. His successor became Tony Wantz.
