History of the Band (2)

1981 - 2002:

1981
The Concordia band participates for the first time at the Carnival parade in Diekirch and at the traditional "Dancing Procession" in Echternach.
1982
The band director Tony Wantz resigns and is replaced from October on by Ralph Dullnig. At the same time, the music theory courses are stopped in Erpeldange; the students are invited to follow the courses in one of the neighbouring music schools.
1984
First contacts are made with the "Blue Lake Fine Arts Camp", Michigan, in collaboration witth the band of Feulen. In June, Erpeldange and Feulen host about 100 young musiciens of the "Blue Lake Symphony Band".
More information about Blue Lake.
1987
On the Carnival parade in Diekirch, the Concordia band wins the price of the best music group for its performance under the motto: "Erpeldange near Rio" with brazilian rythms and decorations.
1988
Jean-Claude Braun replaces Ralph Dullnig as the band director.
1991
Many carnival festivities are cancelled due to the Gulf war.
Jean-Claude Braun resigns during the Summer. Jean-Pol Meis is appointed as director of the band.
1992
Jean-Pol Meis starts two initiatives which have been maintained since then: a Spring Gala Concert of the band, and a Christmas Concert by the band and the choir.
1994
An agreement is found between the "Union Grand-Duc Adolphe", the Erpeldange community council and Concordia to establish a music school in Erpeldange. It is felt that the large music schools of the neigbouring towns are not giving enough weight to the requirements of the smaller bands.
1995
Due to pressure by the administrations of Diekirch and Erpeldange, the plan to have a local music education has to be abandoned.
1997
The Spring concert "A Captain's Gala" is a great success. The formula "Concert + Show + Buffet" is appreciated by everybody, especially by the winners of a one week cruise.
2001
The Concordia society celebrates the 40th birthday of its band with an ambitious cultural program starting with a Gala Concert in May and ending with the Christmas Concert in December.
